本瓦の民家と土塀 The house with Japanese traditional roofs and walls

　私が住んでいる大阪南端の岬町には本瓦を葺いた古い民家や石組の土塀が年々数を減らしつつあるもまだ見受けられる。土塀はたいてい土が八割がた剥がれ落ち、石があらわになっていて、時には家屋もない空き地で土塀の名残だけが静かに大地に戻るのを待っている。

　草臥た日本家屋は趣をまとっているもので、その狭間の路地を歩いているとひととき時を忘れ、遠い昔に踏み込んだような懐かしい感覚にとらわれる。自分の記憶の中にある懐かしい風景と言うわけではないのにそう感じるのは日本人としての記憶だろう。

Around my neighborhood in the southern end of Osaka, there are several traditional Japanese houses. They feature heavy old-style tile roofs and earthen walls, which often show flaking in many places and slowly returning to the earth. Walking between these houses, I feel transported to a distant past. The feeling does not evoke my memories but instead connects me to memories of the Japanese people.

大阪城の紅葉 Colourful Leaves with Osaka Castle

　大阪生まれの私は、何度となく大阪城公園を子供の時から訪れてはいるが、大阪城を描いたことは一度もなかった。観光地とはなかなか絵心をそそらないものである。

　十二月初旬の大阪城公園は紅葉あり冬枯れの木々あり常緑樹ありで、寒かったけれど美しかったので、鼻水啜りながら携帯用硯と墨を取り出して紅葉越しに天守を入れて描いて見た。手はかじかみ若干の苦行だが、水墨スケッチと言うものは思い通り行かずやり直せないところが潔くて良い。昔の東洋の画家は他に方法を知らないので皆そうしていたのだろうと思うが、ある意味だからこそ軽やかで絵に動きがあったのだろう。まあ、私も普段は鉛筆と消しゴムやデジタルも使うことがあるわけだが。

I have visited Osaka castle many times because I was born and raised in Osaka. however, I had never drawn or painted it. Tourist spots are not picturesque, but that day Osaka castle behind the golden leaves made me paint it. Sketching with Japanese ink and brush is not able to redo and undo that makes me not bother about last state. I wonder old Japanese painters were painting that way because they didn't have other tools. That is the reason there are movements in their painting. Although I paint with digital tools sometimes.

有馬の山門 The gate of a small Buddhist temple at Arima

 　先日、父の七回忌の法要があった。坊さんが「もうお父さんも十三回忌になるな」と言うので、「え、七回忌ですよ」と答えると「しもた、まちごうた」と返ってきた。そんなことあるやろか。

　法要の後、母が有馬に行きたいと言うので、何年かぶりに有馬に行った。秋色に色づき出した木々もちらほらと見みられたが、もみじ狩りにはまだ早いようであった。

　曇天の下スケッチをしたが、集中すると暑さも寒さも感じず心地よい。紅葉の盛りとなった頃にまた来たいが、そのころは結構寒いはずで鼻水を啜りながらスケッチしなくてはならないだろう。

We had the sixth anniversary of our father's death.  The monk said "Is it the sixth? Sorry. I made a mistake. I thought the twelfth." I said "Alas, I can not believe!"

After the ceremony we went to Arima spa as my mother had wanted to visit there.  It was still early for autumn leaves but temperature was best for sketching. 

 

和歌山県立近代美術館と博物館の森 A woods of Wakayama Prefectural Museum and Modern art Museum

和歌山県立の美術館と博物館のそそりたつコンクリートの間から、橇で滑れそうな丘とその上に森が見える。人工的な建造物が額縁でそれに囲まれた風景が絵画のよう。スケッチをしたのは暖かくなり出した頃で、まだ若葉は見えなかった。僕が住んでいる大阪南部から和歌山北部では半分が常緑樹で半分が落葉樹。秋の紅葉は山間部や北国のように鮮やかではないけれど、緑濃い常緑樹の間に葉を落とした枝や幹が見えるのもなかなか良い。

I found beautiful forest scenery between concrete buildings. The scenery looked like painting and the building looked like a frame. Evergreen and deciduous trees are mixed in my region. Some of the trees still do not have leaves in early spring. I like this green leaves and naked twigs forest.

伏見の酒蔵 Japanese Sake Brewery at Fushimi Kyoto

秋たけなわのころ箏(こと)の演奏会に招いていただき伏見に行ってきた。伏見は大阪からは京都市街の手前にあるがお稲荷さんぐらいしか行った記憶がない。伏見桃山駅で初めて降りて伏見の街を歩くと、一見ごく普通の郊外の街だが、水路沿いには酒蔵が並び柳が風にそよぐ趣ある街である。水路の上の鉄橋を走る京阪電車も柳ごしに見ると昭和な雰囲気であった。
I was invited to Japanese traditional music live and exhibited my prints at Fushi Kyoto in mid autumn. Fushimi is closed to Osaka but I had not got off train before this time in spite of I have passed by many times. There are lots of Japanese sake brewery and willow leaves are blown by wind that bring a good atomosphere in the town.

岬町孝子の高仙寺にて At Kousenji temple in Kyoushi, Misaki town

淡輪から二駅離れた孝子の孝子観音こと高仙寺まで飯盛山(384.5m)を越えて行くハイキングコースがあり、山越えで寺に参ってきた。途中、飯盛山山頂からは大阪湾が一望できる。ちなみに飯盛山という山は日本中あちこちにあり、たいてい里山で里から飯を盛ったように見えるからそう呼ばれるのだろう。道中は昨年の台風の爪痕がまだ残っており倒木が多く見られた。寺に着き、古びた寺務所のような建物を見つけスケッチする。昨年の台風から修復していないようで瓦があちこちめくれている。それもアクセントになって絵になるが、ただこのままでは建物が傷んでしまう。崩れ逝くものには独特の美があるが、建て壊しとならずに残っていて欲しい。
One hot day I went to Kousenji temple in Kyousi by foot. It is two station away from my house. I must have crossed a little mountain named Mt. Iimori that means it looks like a heaped rice in a bowl.  Last year huge typhoon attacked Osaka area. There were lots of fallen trees on the way to the temple and some roof tiles of temple were turned up. There is profoundness in something falling into ruin but I want it to be restored.

和歌山城紅葉渓庭園門 The Gate of Kouyoukei Garden in Wakayama Castle

　暫く前、和歌山城に行った時、茅葺屋根を戴いた紅葉渓庭園の門に行き当たった。茅葺屋根を見るとスケッチがしたくなり、久しぶりに長い間鞄の隅で眠っていた携帯用の筆と硯を取り出したが、趣のあるこの門も街の喧騒が近く、茅葺屋根とは不似合いな装いの観光客が出入りしている。よくよく考えると自分もその一人だと思いながら描いてみると、なにやら門の向こうから眠そうな顔をした侍でも出てきそうである。このような建築物が少数ながら日本にはまだ残されているが、日本の街並みはもうこれらとは調和してこないのは残念である。

I found a gate with thatched roof in Wakayama castle. It is the gate to the Kouyoukei garden. I feel like to sketch when I see a thatched roof. I always carry a sketch book and brushes but they are not used long times. Now was the time they came out from my bug. It is a good looking traditional Japanese architecture but close to urban life. I think there are still some traditional architectures in Japan. However modern Japanese city scape does not suit with them.

イタリア紀行 其の3 ローマ Roma

　朝、宿から近かったこともあり、バチカン美術館に向かってみたが、もう長蛇の列で列に加わる気にもなれず通り過ぎた。その日の夕方、バチカンのサンピエトロ広場にも行ってみたが、こちらもまた長蛇の列であった。毎日毎日この調子なのだろう。ローマに来てバチカンに入らず帰国するとは、と言う気もしたが、また訪れる機会に、と思うことにした。左の逆光の中にあるのはサンピエトロ寺院。結局、ローマでは教会を回り建築や彫刻、絵画を見て回った。ローマの教会ではカラヴァジョやミケランジョロ、ラファエロが多く見られるのである。入場料は大抵無料だが、賽銭として1ユーロほど気持ちがあれば入れれば良い。混雑具合は超混雑というほどではなく、やや混雑と言ったところだ。その中で一番感銘を受けたのはサン・ルイジ・デイ・フランチェージ教会のカラヴァッジョ作、聖マタイの召命である。教会の中の作品は暗かったり、位置が高かったりしてよく見えないこともあるが、この作品はこの場に見事に調和していた。右上から入る窓の光が聖マタイにさしており、絵の中の光の描写と呼応し、独特の効果を出している。この作品の面白いところはキリストの側はキリストの時代の衣服を着ているが、マタイとその一群はカラヴァッジョの時代のイタリアの衣服を着ているのである。まるでキリストがカラヴァッジョの時代に降臨したかのよう。描かれたばかりの絵を見た当時の人の驚きを感じる。実は日を変えて2度見に来た。ちなみに賽銭1ユーロ入れると絵にライトアップする仕掛。

　ローマの有名美術館の一つボルゲーゼ美術館にも来た。さぞ長蛇の列か、と思いしや人もまばらで簡単に中に入れた。しかし、入場券を買おうとすると本日分は売り切れ、今買えるのは明後日の昼からの分だと言うことである。明後日の昼はイタリアにいない。電話でも予約できるので事前に電話されると便利ですよと言われてしまった。ここも次の機会があることを願うしかない。仕方がないのでボルゲーゼ美術館をスケッチした。それも裏側を。

I went to Musei Vatican a few minutes past 9 o'clock. A long queue was already made in front of the entrance. I did not have the motivation of joining it. At evening of same day, I came to Piazza San Pietoro but there was a long queue too. Maybe everyday is same as this day. If I have a chance to visit Roma, I would like to join the line. I visited many churches and saw paintings and sculptures. There are works of Michelangelo, Raffaello and Caravaggio in Roman church. One of the most impressive work for me was the calling of saint Matthew by Caravaggio at Contarelli Chapel in San luigi dei Francesi. This Painting is really harmonized with this chapel. The light from the upper window falls on the painting. The right mixes with the painted right and the rights shine on saint Matthew. Very impressive effect. Another distinctive feature is people in the group of saint Matthew wear clothes of Caravaggio's time. In contrast, Jesus and his follower wear that of Jesus's time. That made me feel like Jesus came to the time of Caravaggio. I had come twice to see this painting in my stay of Roma.
 The sketch of above is galleria Borghese. I drew it from the back. When I visited it, there was not queue. I could easily enter the galleria but a receptionist said admission was fully booked until day after tomorrow. I said I left Roma tomorrow. He said you had better reserve tickets by phone as you come again. A presto, Rome!

イタリア紀行 其の2 スペルロンガ Sperlonga

　この日はフォルミアから海岸線をバスに揺られ、ガエータのさらに奥にあるスペルロンガを目指した。バス代は往復で3.3ユーロ、片道4~50分。ただこの路線にはフォルミア駅前以外バス停の標識と言うものがなく時効表も貼られていない。要するに帰りのバスの時間が分からないのである。おそらく一時間に一本もバスはなく、最終を逃すと大変なことになる。帰りは夕方早めに来て待つしかない。バスは教会の廃墟の前で止まった。とりあえずバス停から階段を海に向かって降りる。澄んだ青く美しい海が目の前に広がってくる。海岸から旧市街の方を見ると、地中海の青い海に白い壁の家並みが美しく映えている。4月と言っても少しきついイタリアの日差しを感じながら、海に面した家並みを見上げスケッチした。旧市街の階段を登ったり降りたりして散策した後、昼食にティエーッラと言うパイのようなものを食べる。中身は蛸と野菜、イタリアで蛸が食べれて少し嬉しい。昼食後、更に旧市街の散策していると、青い空のもと強い陽射しを浴びボロボロと壁が剥がれた小さな教会に行き当たる。なんともイタリアの田舎的なその教会をスケッチした。スケッチしていると意外と人通りが多く、みんなスケッチブックを覗き込んでベーッロ(うまい)、ベーッロと言ってくれる。スケッチを終え教会の中に入る。白い壁のためか窓が少ないにもかかわらずとても明るい。そして何よりも小さい空間にもかかわらず、とても安らぎのある空間がそこにつくられていることであった。どうしてこんな空間をつくることができたのだろうか。ただしばらく席に着いて安らぎの中いた。もう少しいたかったがそうもいかないので、外に出てバス停へ向かう。朝バスを降りたあたりで通りすがった奥様にバスの時間を聞いたが知らないと言う。彼女が色んな人に聞いてくれて、僕は後を付いて回ったが皆知らないと言う。たぶん子供と年寄りしか使わないのだろう。時計を見ると4時、ひたすら待つことにした。40分ほどして逆方向に行くバスが来たので、運転手に聞くと、ここで待って入れば俺が戻って来るとのこと。教会の廃墟の前でひたすら待つ。5時15分ついにバスはやって来た。
　翌日はフォルミアからローマーに戻るべく昼ごろ鉄道の駅に向かった。切符を買ったら駅員がローマにはバスで行けと言う。なんのことだかわからない。ここは鉄道の駅のはずだ。そう言った駅員は指差して、あいつが英語がうまいから理由を聞いてこいと言う。その流暢な英語を話す駅員いわく、電車はトラブルがあって運休し、バスが代行すると言うことだ。だんだんと人が集まり出した。文句を言うような人もなく、予定時間を40分超えてバスは出た。気分を変えてバスの旅を楽しむことにしたが、来た時はローマから電車で1時間半だったが、帰りは3時間かかった。

The next day of I visited Gaeta, I came to Sperlonga by bus. I bought a return ticket for 3.3eur and it took 50 minutes from Formia. This bus route does not have time table on the bus stops that meant I could not know when the bus would come as I went back to Formia. Anyway I walked down stairs to the sea. The sky and the sea spread out in front of me. Shiny white walls of the old town were very attractive between the blue sky and the blue sea. I sketched the old town at a seaside. The sketch is above. I ate tiella of octopus for lunch. Not only Japanese who eat octopus, Italian too. The left sketch is a old tiny church I found in the old town. The wall is nicely lost its luster under the blue Mediterranean sky. Inside of it is amazingly peaceful place as not being able to depict by photos or paints. The room is very small and windows are few but the room is so bright because of surrounded by white walls. I sat on a bench and forgot about time a while. I returned to myself and realized that now the time of going back to bus stop. At the bus stop, I was waiting a bus until it came. Sometime I asked passers-by when the bus would come but anyone did not know. Forty minutes later a bus from opposite direction was coming here and I asked the driver when the bus for Formia came, he said that I was going to back here. Another forty minutes later finally the bus came.

 Next day, I went to Formia station around noon to go to Roma. A station staff said trains were stoped by trouble but you did not need to worry because we chartered buses. It took 3 hours to reach Roma. It had took one and a half hour when I came to Formia yet.

イタリア紀行 其の1 フォルミア,ガエータ Formia and Gaeta

　ローマから鈍行に揺られ一時間半ほど、8.2ユーロの切符を買ってフォルミアと言う港町に来た。ここに三泊してフォルミア、ガエータ、スペルロンガと回る予定である。
　フォルミアはローマとナポリの中ほどにあり、この辺りでは大きめの街で、それほど観光地化もされておらずイタリアの普通の片田舎の街と言った感じだ。だがそこがまた良い。日本人などまずおらず、どの店も一度入ると顔を覚えられてしまう。カフェやバールもローマよりちょっと安い感じで、結構居心地がいいところであった。宿は適当にネットで決めたが場所がわからない。近くにいた恰幅の良いおばさんに聞くと、代わりに宿に電話してくれた。ちょっと厳しい口調だったからかすぐ男がどこからかやって来たが、宿とは古くて大きな渋いアパートの3階だった。見つからなかったわけである。すっ飛んで来た彼はステファノ君といい、そこは彼とマンマがやってるかなり民泊に近いところであった。隣の写真は宿とは関係ないが、市街地にはまるでエッシャーの絵のような地中海を感じさせるアパートもある。写真を撮っていると、突然扉が開きボンジョルノと言われた。

　翌日1.1ユーロ払いバスに乗って、フォルミアから30分ほど海岸線を走りガエータと言う隣町に来た。ガエータは多少観光地のようだが、人も少なく一人でゆっくり見て回るのには良かった。スケッチなどしていると地元の人がベーッロ(お上手)と言ってくれる。立派な教会があったので入ってみたが、新しい建物の中にロマネスク風の年代物の素朴なレリーフがあちこちに嵌め込まれている。新しく教会を建てた時、古い石材を利用したのだろう。裏口から出るとそこは立派な鐘楼であった。
　昼食後、階段の多い街を上へ上へと上がって行くと、いつの間にかハイキングコースに入ってしまい、岬の小山を登った。頂上付近で追分に至り思案していると、大きな黒い犬を連れたお嬢さんがどこからともなく現れ道を教えてくれた。バス停に行く途中にいい教会があるのでスケッチしたら、と教えてもらったのが下のスケッチ。もう夕方でバスの発車が気になり速攻で描いた。速描きするトレーニングも必要である。
Formia is one and half hour south from Roma by train for 8.2eur. It is halfway between Roma and Napoli. It is a middle size city and may not be famous as a tourist spot but that is a good point of Formia. I had not seen any Japanese when I had stayed there. Bars and foods are reasonable. It is a cozy good place. When I was walking on the old town, I found interestingly carved white wall building. It seemed like a picture of Escher.

 I went to Gaeta the next day of I came to Formia. It took 30 minutes from Formia by bus for 1.1euro. Gaeta is a one of the tourist spots around this region but I had seen a few tourists when I visited there. I walked around in the old town and I found a church that was built with stones and sculptures of romanesque era and newly curved stones. The photo of above is the bell tower of it. I went up stone stairs of old town and wandered into a hiking trail of little mountain. At a fork of trail around the top of mountain, I met a girl with dog. She told me the way and recommended to sketch a church before I would get to the bus stop. The church is in the left sketch. I drew it in haste because I did not like to miss bus.  

ドイツ紀行 其の2 ケーニヒスヴィンターの路地 Alley of Königswinter

　ケーニッヒスヴィンターはKönigswinterと書かれるが何度聞いてもカタカナ表記は不可能な発音である。隣り合わせの二つの都市であるケルンとボンの郊外の街でケルンまで40分、ボンまで30分ほど。ケルン周辺に一週間ほどいる予定だったので 、市内に宿泊するよりケーニッヒスヴィンターが良いという勧めに従い ここに宿を求めた。ライン河沿いの小さな町で左のような木造建築が多く見られる。ヨーロッパは石造建築のイメージがあるがドイツのこの地域は木造の伝統建築が多い。おもちゃの家のようで何とも可愛らしく、基本的構造は日本建築に似ている。ヨーロッパらしい町並でありながら何か懐かしいものを感じさせられるのはそのせいかもしれない。
　ケーニッヒスヴィンターまではフランクフルトから普通乗車券(二等車？)で二時間半ほどかけて来た。ちなみに普通車でも長距離なら前日までに切符を買っておくと安くなる。
　駅から宿に向かう途中、カフェで立派なカイザル髭を生やした初老の男性と話し、僕にもわかる英語で宿の場所やら、ボンにはトラムに乗って、ケルンにはDB(ドイツのJRみたいなもの)乗って行くこと、などなど色々教えてもらった。一週間いるのでまた会えるでしょうと言って別れたが、その後その方には会えなかった。
　下のスケッチの建物は何であろう。倉庫のようにみえるが教会の鐘のようなものが屋根についている。中に神輿でも入っているのかも。その下は空き地のお花畑。ケーニッヒスヴィンターとはこんなところ。

Königswinter is a neighbor city of Köln and Bonn. It has a cosy and beautiful town by the river Rhein. There are some wooden traditional houses around down town. I think the structure has similarity with Japanese wooden traditional buildings. Somehow the traditional German style town made me feel nostalgic in spite of I am a Japanese.
On the way to the hotel from the station, I took a coffee at a cafe. A beautiful Kaiser beard man told me the way to the hotel, how to go to Bonn and Köln from Königswinter and etc about Königswinter. I told him I was going to stay Königswinter for a week and I would see you again but I could not see him again.
What kind of building is this in the left sketch? This building is narrow and long and it has a belfry on it. Is it a chapel?
Even weed flowers in a vacant lot were beautiful at Königswinter in April.

京都大山崎の板倉造り Japanese 800 hundred years old log house

　まだ寒い頃、大山崎山荘美術館に行った。美術館の裏はあの天下分け目のと言われる天王山である。それほど高い山ではないので登ってみようと思い頂上を目指した。30分ほど行くと神社があり、なにやら和風ログハウスとでも言うような不思議な建物がある。興味深かったのでスケッチしたのだが、心底冷えて手もかじかみ頂上まで行く気が失せ、結局そこで山を降りた。帰宅後、検索してわかったのだが、神社は自玉手祭来酒解神社(たまでよりまつりきたるさかとけじんじゃ)と言うこりゃまたびっくりの名前で、和風ログは神輿庫(しんよこ)と言う神輿(みこし)を入れる庫(くら)であるらしい。さらにこの神輿庫日本一古い板倉造りで鎌倉時代のものとのこと。正倉院があるではないかと思ったがあれは校倉造で、四角の材で組まれているのが板倉造り、三角の材が校倉造りであるそうだ。分ける必要あるんかいなと思うが、おかげでこの神輿庫は日本最古の称号をもらったわけだ。
One cold day I climbed a little mountain called "Tennouzan" that is located between Kyoto and Osaka. There is an old shrine near the summit and a tiny old log house stands there. The log house is 800 hundred years old and the oldest one in this type in Japan. This type of log house is not popular in Japan. The structure is similar to European style log house. I wonder there were some in this era but many of them had disappeared because of disaster and war. This one has survived hundreds years. Having good luck it will reach millennium.

数寄屋とアンテナ A traditional tea ceremony house with TV antenna

　京都西陣界隈で見かけた小さな数寄屋造りの建物。新しくないことはわかるが、明治以降の建築かもっと古いものかわからない。間口の狭さと奥行きの深さが独特で、手前には縁側のような空間があり、その奥の板戸の上には木の扁額(へんがく)が掛けられている。由緒ある茶室だろうか。二階にはまるでミニ銀閣と言った趣の書院風の窓があり、さらに屋根に視線をあげると、そこではBSと地デジのアンテナが厳かに天を指差していた。趣味講座茶道とか見んのかな。

 I found old traditional tea ceremony style house at Nishijin Kyoto. Its facade is so narrow and it's too long to back. There are Ginkaku-ji temple style windows on second story. An old wooden nameplate hang above the wood sliding door. What a traditionally tasteful structure it is. It may be honorable historic tea house. At the end I lifted my eyes to the roof. There were a TV antenna on it. The owner might want to watch tea ceremony lesson program, or comedy?

鐘楼の正月 New Year's Holiday of A Temple Bell

百八の　煩悩撞いて　疲れたる　正月休みの　鐘のうたた寝

　大晦日に百八もの煩悩を撞いて疲れたのか、寺の鐘は風のない元日の青空の下うたた寝をしていた。もう時の音を告げることのないこの鐘にとって、大晦日の夜だけが年に一度の大仕事なのだろう。

 Temple bells ring 108 times on 31 December in Japan. Because there are 108 worldly desire in teaching of Buddha and to hit them the day before new year's day. Nowadays some of the temple bells do not tell times, therefore this is there only job. But it is a big job for them that the reason this bell took a nap on sunny New Year's day under the blue sky.

宇度墓古墳、大阪府岬町淡輪 An ancient tomb near my house at Tannowa Osaka

　淡輪にあるウドノハカと言う古墳で、五十瓊(イニ)敷入彦命(シキイリヒコノミコ)と言う皇子の墓らしい。冒頭の漢字三文字は二音で、殿下のお名前は僕には難しすぎる。ここに立つと遠近感が極端にあり面白かったのでスケッチしてみた。帰宅して地図を見て前方後円墳の前方の角から見ていたことがわっかた。ネットに同じ位置からとった写真が出ていたが、こんなにパースはついていなかった。しかし、僕にはこのように見えた。ところで小学校で前方後円墳を習って以来、言葉で前方後円墳として覚え、視覚的には前円後方墳と見てしまうのは僕だけか。
There is a 1600 years ago prince's tomb near my house.  It looks like a floating deep forest in a pond and has strangely deep depth in perspective. The prince's name is Inishikirihikonomiko. What a long name is his and very difficult to read in Japanese for Japanese people. I think he might have good nickname to make it short.

　綺麗で小さな茅葺きの茶室を見つけた。高級料亭の敷地内にあり、近寄って見れなかったが、美しい庭と共に、大阪の喧騒の中で、そこだけが別天地のようであった。猛暑の中、やや離れて木陰で絵筆を執ると、クマゼミの大合唱の中、アブラゼミとミンミンゼミの声も聞こえる。すると遠くでツクツクボウシが鳴き出した。空は青空だが、やや重く感じる。もしやと思ったが、帰りに激しい夕立を車窓から見た。

I found a tinny beautiful thatched roofed tea ceremony house. I could not close to it 

because it was in a fancy Japanese style restaurant's garden. The garden with tea ceremony house was like another world compared with crowded Osaka. I sketched it under a tree from distance hearing the sound of summer cicadas. But I caught sound of autumn cicadas in it. It is so hot and sky is blue but I saw a tint of grey in blue sky. There was a shower in this evening. 

京都市街の茅葺屋根 A Thatched Roof House in Kyoto urban area.

　京都の繁華街から少し歩いたところ、茶室らしき小さな茅葺屋根の家屋を見受けた。いい具合にしなびていて、遠い過去から遥から未来まで、このしなび加減のまま存在していそうだ。スケッチしていて気付いたのだが、なんと樋が縦に割った竹であった。

I found small thatched roof house in Kyoto urban area. Maybe it is a tea ceremony house. It was moderately withered in good way and looks like never new, never collapsed. When I was sketching, I realized the gutters are made of bamboo.

四條畷の権現の滝 The Gongen cascade at Shijyounawate Osaka

　四條畷の駅舎を出(い)でて、室が池に向かい寅(東北東)の方(かた)に半時(1時間)ほど歩を進めたりければ、右手に小さき瀧見ゆ。道それて袂に至りければ、瀧壺よりマイナスイオンたち籠め、辺り五間(約9m)ほどPM2.5を隔つと、古(いにしえ)より伝え聞くなり。

If thou walk an hour to east north-east from Shijyounawate Sta. to the Muro pond, thou can find a small cascade. Turning to the basin of cascade, Thou will be surrounded with negative ion mist and be kept PM2.5 out. People have learned that by hearsay long long time.

四條畷古刹(こさつ)龍尾寺の甍(いらか) Tiled roof of the small old temple(Ryubiji) at Shijounawate Osaka.

　暖かい冬の日じゃった。なまくらな自称画伯も雲の割れた青空から陽を浴び、筆に手が伸びた。四半時(30分)して筆を置くと、わずかに本堂の扉が開き、住職の「お茶でもどない」と言う声がした。本尊に手を合わせ茶と羊羹をいただいたが、それはうまい羊羹で得も言われぬ味じゃった。

　住職は言った「先日、・・ンで買いましての」。

　スケッチは始めるまで面倒で、始めてもすぐにはやる気がでない。だが気がつくと気持ちの良い集中に至っている。その状態を三昧(さんまい)と言う。と住職に教えていただいた。

 That day was a warm winter day. I was sketching at the garden of temple. Sun light from blue sky between clouds made my hands work. After a while I heard a voice of "Fancy a cup of tea?" The temple's priest served me tea and youkan(sweet bean jelly). They were tasty like never before. I am not so religious but gave thanks to the Buddha.

 He said "I bought them at the super market that you know" 

 Sketching is bothersome in the beginning but gradually going to concentrate comfortably. The priest said "That mental state is called Samadhi".
